The City of Richmond engaged Aplin & Martin as Lead Consultant, heading up a multidisciplinary team of specialist consultants, for the design of the Williams Road Drainage Pump Station upgrades. Aplin & Martin worked with the project team to develop cost-effective engineering solutions to meet the City’s objectives.
The project succeeded on many levels, protecting and preserving existing ecosystems while integrating into the City Parks Trail Strategy and public interpretive program, as well as maintaining and enhancing existing views and access to the dike. The project further upgraded the pump station to replace old equipment and double the pumping capacity, and provide for mobile onsite/standby power, as well as raising the dike to reflect projected rising sea levels. The project also met the City’s directives for waterfront aesthetics, as well as incorporate public art into the project, making it the ideal sustainable solution for the immediate area and City as a whole.
