Aplin Martin was retained to provide civil engineering services in support of Development Permits (DP), Development Site Servicing Permits (DSSP), and Erosion and Sediment Control Permits for this multifamily townhouse project in the Evanston Community in NW Calgary. Aplin Martin provided conceptual, preliminary, detail design, and contract administration and inspection services for our client.
The existing site required specific rough grading from the existing site condition to reduce the overall excavation required for the foundation installations. This was completed by importing material for structural fill throughout the site
Aplin & Martin completed designs for watermain, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers which were installed throughout the site to service the 124 units in 17 buildings. The storm sewer design and installation incorporated measures for volume and rate control to meet the City of Calgary’s storm water management program. Precast concrete and plastic Brentwood tanks were utilized for storm water detention and retention, respectively, as well as Inline Control Devices (ICDs) installed in storm structures were used as part of the Storm Water Management strategy to mitigate costs and surface storage of storm water.
Surface works design for the project included the onsite parking lots, roadway facilities, and overall site grading including the design and construction of a shared access road for an adjoining site.
