Aplin Martin provided Civil Engineering consulting and project management services for the Bingham Crossing Residential/Commercial Subdivision located near Springbank, Alberta in Rocky View County. Phase 1 of this multi-phase development was 80 acres of the quarter section being developed. Aplin Martin Consultants project responsibilities consisted of internal subdivision roadways, storm water management ponds, deep site servicing, potable water modelling, irrigation systems, and a waste water treatment centre complete with treated effluent irrigation of the adjacent lands.
The planning and design of the subdivision followed strict guidelines for Stormwater Management, including the storage, treatment, and release of storm water from the site. The site was subject to stringent volume and rate release requirements that were changed throughout the design process by the County. A portion of the storm water management strategy includes reuse of storm water for irrigation via a separate pipe network to provide irrigation to each of the lots throughout the subdivision. The site provides a mix of commercial developments, a residential complex for seniors, and municipal reserve areas for greenspace and pathways.
Engineering services included Detail Design, Cost Estimation, Stormwater Management Design, Project Management and Coordination with the County. Obtaining approval in the County is known to be a challenge, as highlighted in the Fraser Institute Report on New Homes and Red Tape, August 2015.
