As civil consultants for this parkade located in the East Village in Calgary, Aplin Martin completed all civil engineering and stormwater management design. Working with the Project Architect, Kasian, we provided preliminary designs for two project options. We then estimated the cost to construct for each option, and identified any risks associated with the project. The option that was chosen was a parkade in the middle of the two lots, with both ends of the site to be used for high rise towers in the future.
The parkade will include a few small commercial spaces as well as areas that can be converted to event spaces when required. These required special considerations. Both options also have the potential for commercial/residential floors to be added on top of the proposed parkade in the future. Aplin Martin evaluated the requirements for these additions and the costs associated with installing this infrastructure now versus doing it in the future, when the additions are being completed. The overall site is 0.88 ha. A below grade section of the LRT runs through the centre of the site, causing the site to require two water, storm and sanitary services, as no infrastructure was allowed in the LRT ROW. Rooftop stormwater storage has been proposed to reduce the size of the tank required. From the roof, the water will be directed to two underground tanks, located in the parkade. The stormwater will be pumped out at a controlled rate.
