192 Street Arterial Widening
The City of Surrey retained Aplin Martin Consultants to provide detailed engineering design and construction administration for 1.7 kilometers of the 192nd Street Arterial Parkway. The parkway provides the main connection to the newly developed East Clayton Neighbourhood and ultimately the Trans‐Canada Highway. Of the 1.7km project, 800m was new road construction and 900m was upgrading of the existing two lane rural road to an arterial standard road. Aplin Martin further implemented sustainable features such as a swale and French drain along the boulevard, absorbent topsoil and a planted median.
Design challenges include extensive Hydro, Telus and Shaw utilities relocation, coordination with Fortis BC and GVWD on pre‐location and relocation of plants; and phasing of projects to ensure no disruption to residents during Christmas Break.
Also included in the project is an additional 2.2 km of upgrades to existing streets, 5 signalized intersections, and detention pond upgrades to mimic a headwaters conditions feeding a red‐coded stream. Aplin Martin prepared and attended the public information meeting and represented the City of Surrey’s interests.
